This Privacy Policy explains how OpenKitchen.Food ("OpenKitchen," "we," "us") collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards your personal information when you use our directory and technology platform (the "Platform"). It also describes your rights and how to exercise them. OpenKitchen is a directory only — we do not prepare, sell, or deliver any food, and every Cook is an independent operator. Nothing in this Policy modifies the disclaimers and hold-harmless language set forth in our Terms of Service or Disclaimer & Hold Harmless.
1. Information We Collect
- Account information: name, email address, phone number (if provided), password hash, and profile photo.
- Cook profile information: kitchen name, bio, address, cuisines, menu items, photos, catering packages, and specials.
- Order and booking information: items ordered, notes to the cook, pickup preferences, catering headcount, special requests, and status history.
- Payment information: processed by Stripe. OpenKitchen does not store full payment card numbers or CVV codes. We retain Stripe customer IDs, transaction IDs, last-four digits, and receipt metadata.
- Device and usage information: IP address, browser type, operating system, referring page, session identifiers, pages viewed, and interactions with features.
- Location information: approximate coordinates when you grant browser geolocation, used to sort nearby cooks and specials.
- Communications: messages you send us via email, in-app support, or feedback forms.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To operate, maintain, and improve the Platform.
- To process orders, catering bookings, and payments.
- To facilitate communication between Customers and Cooks (for example, to display the Cook's phone number and address on their profile).
- To send transactional emails such as receipts, order status updates, and account notices.
- To monitor, prevent, and investigate fraud, abuse, spam, or other violations of our terms.
- To comply with legal obligations and to enforce our policies.
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as necessary to operate the Platform:
- With Cooks: when you place an order, we share the information required to fulfill it (name, order contents, notes, pickup or delivery details).
- Service providers: Stripe (payments), Supabase / Lovable Cloud (database and authentication), email delivery vendors, and analytics providers acting on our behalf.
- Legal and safety: to comply with a subpoena, court order, or other lawful request; to protect the rights, property, or safety of OpenKitchen, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets.
4. Cookies and Similar Technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies for authentication, session management, preferences, and analytics. See our Cookie Policy for detail.
5. Data Retention
We retain personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Platform, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, and comply with legal obligations (including tax and financial record retention). Reviews and ratings you post may remain publicly visible even after account deletion, in anonymized form.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information; to object to or restrict certain processing; and to withdraw consent. To exercise these rights, email privacy@openkitchen.food. We will respond within thirty (30) days, subject to identity verification. California residents have additional rights under the CCPA/CPRA; European Economic Area and UK residents have additional rights under the GDPR and UK GDPR. We do not knowingly discriminate against users who exercise their privacy rights.
7. Children
The Platform is not directed to children under thirteen (13) years of age, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under thirteen. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. Security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information. No method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. International Transfers
Your information may be processed in and transferred to the United States and other jurisdictions where our service providers operate. Where required by law, we implement appropriate safeguards for such transfers.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted with a new "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, communicated by email or in-app notice.

OpenKitchen.Food ("OpenKitchen," "we," "us," or the "Platform") operates solely as an online directory and technology platform that connects independent home cooks, personal chefs, caterers, and food businesses ("Cooks") with end users ("Customers"). OpenKitchen is not a restaurant, ghost kitchen, commissary, food service provider, manufacturer, distributor, retailer, or seller of food.OpenKitchen does not prepare, handle, package, store, transport, deliver, inspect, test, or warrant any food, ingredient, allergen disclosure, licensing status, health permit, insurance status, or regulatory compliance of any Cook.
All food safety, licensing, permitting, insurance, cottage-food compliance, labeling, allergen disclosure, sanitation, temperature control, and regulatory compliance are the sole and exclusive responsibility of the Cook. Customer expressly acknowledges and assumes all risk arising from ordering, receiving, consuming, or otherwise interacting with any food, beverage, service, or item offered by any Cook through the Platform, including without limitation the risk of foodborne illness, allergic reaction, cross-contamination, injury, illness, or property damage.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Customer agrees to release, waive, discharge, indemnify, defend, and hold harmlessOpenKitchen.Food, its parent, subsidiaries, affiliates, officers, directors, shareholders, members, managers, employees, contractors, agents, licensors, and successors and assigns (collectively, the "Released Parties") from and against any and all claims, demands, actions, causes of action, suits, proceedings, damages, judgments, losses, liabilities, illnesses, injuries, allergic reactions, foodborne illness, wrongful death, personal injury, property damage, costs, and expenses of any kind or nature (including reasonable attorneys' fees and court costs) arising out of or in any way related to (a) any food, beverage, service, catering, or item offered, sold, prepared, or delivered by any Cook; (b) any interaction between Customer and any Cook; (c) any information posted by any Cook; (d) Customer's use of or inability to use the Platform; or (e) any breach of these terms by Customer.
The Released Parties make no representations or warranties, express or implied, regarding the quality, safety, wholesomeness, freshness, ingredients, preparation, nutritional content, allergen content, legality, licensure, or regulatory compliance of any food or Cook, and disclaim all such warranties to the maximum extent permitted by law, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
